Header is always sorted with but I found a Workaround for me. After sorting you can grab the whole header line on the left side by the moving Icon and pull it up to as first line.

I am looking down at all the replies and I don't see anyone from OneTastic answering the most common question being, Can you please find a way to not include the header.  Does anyone look at these besides users?

Also, unfortunately I am one of the few that just can't get the sort table macro to work.  I highlight the column, not including the header, and go to macros and click on "sort table".  It keeps taking me back to the website to get the macro.  After I download the macro I do open it.  Well, I click and it says opening, but nothing happens and nothing shows up different in OneNote.  Am I missing something

Unfortunately, sorting a single column in DESCENDING order does not take into account the column heading.

I use OneNote as a shopping list. I have all the groceries that I can think of in a list with tick boxes, that are not ticked off. Before shopping I tick off the stuff that I need to buy, and then, when shopping, I clear the tick boxes when buying stuff on the list until all the tick boxes are empty.

What I would like is at sorting mechanism that would put all ticked off groceries at the top before I start to shop. Then I would not have to scroll up and down the very long list while shopping.

This macro does not work for me (on OneNote 2010 on Win7 x64.)  I have tried selecting a column or a single cell, and tried just clicking into a single cell.  When I run the macro, I see the dialog (pictured on this page). I choose Ascending and Sort whole table. The dialog box closes, but the table remains unchanged.

I want to sort the table alphabetically by (e.g.) the values in the first column.

It would be great if tables had a date sorting ability. To have this in the iPad version would make my mobile solution complete.

Currentlly, with "ascending" and "sort the whole table", this macro:
- sorts the header of the table (the first row) as well.
- puts the blank rows at the beginning/top.

Can options be added so that:
- the header is excluded from sorting process.
- any blank row will be put at the end of the table; not at the beginning/top though "ascending" order is used.

Thank you so much! this macro saved me a day of re-doing two charts that somehow got the rows scrambled. I had acrobat files embedded and it looks like it kept them all in order - kudos!

Can there be an option to exclude headings when sorting a table. Currently, if a table has headings, the headings are sorted as if they were part of the rows of the table.

Agreed: Need feature to exclude first row for headers

I come out the workaround to exclude the header row:
- put a prefix"_" to make the header would be sorted as the first row
- after sorted, remove that "_" preifx

As other comments described, if could have an option to exclude header row, that would be better.

I'll +1 that.  I love this feature, but need to figure out how to exclude the headers.

I support  josephs input: Please add a Checkbox whether the first row should be included or not. Default = dont't include.

I like this macro!  Is there a way to ignore the first row in the table?  I use the first row for column headers and do not want to sort that.  Great job!

It would be fine to have the same filter as in Excel :
At the top fo a column, you type an expression in the filter and the Table displayed only shows the lines containing this word in the filtered column.
